When Your Energy Isn't Yours: Why It Matters for Healing

Updated: Oct 10

Have you ever felt drained, foggy, or weighed down emotionally and you can’t quite trace it back to anything in your own life?

There’s a good chance your energy wasn’t entirely yours in that moment.

In the HigherCx protocol, we call this enmeshment, a state where your attention, energy, or emotional resources are tied up with someone else or something else.

It could be a loved one, a client, a co-worker, or even a situation you only know about through the news. Most of the time, it’s not intentional, it happens without conscious awareness.

Why Enmeshment Matters in Healing

One of the first things we do in a HigherCx session is check whether your energy is fully present with you or if part of it is still engaged elsewhere.

When your energy is focused anywhere but yourself, it’s like your body is trying to heal while part of its resources are busy somewhere else.

You might be doing all the “right” things for your health, but changes don’t hold, or progress feels slower than it should.

Put simply:

You can’t integrate healing when your energy is tied up somewhere else.

Restoring your energy to yourself, what we call energetic sovereignty, creates the foundation your body and mind need to fully repair, integrate, and move forward.

How to Recognize When Your Energy Isn’t Fully Yours

Sometimes you might feel restless, resentful, or preoccupied, and not connect it to anything you’ve done that day. That can be a sign that part of your energy is caught up in someone else’s life, feelings, or problems.

Here are a few clues this might be happening:

  • You feel responsible for someone else’s happiness or success.

  • You replay conversations in your head, wondering what they think of you.

  • You feel drained after certain interactions, even when nothing “bad” happened.

  • You worry more about someone’s choices than they seem to themselves.

  • You notice resentment when your care or effort isn’t matched.

  • You take on emotions or even physical tension that you later realize aren’t yours.

When this happens, your energy isn’t fully available for you—and that can quietly slow down your healing and personal progress.

How to Shift Enmeshment

The first step is awareness: notice the signs and get curious. Ask yourself:

  • Is this mine to carry?

  • Am I tied to the outcome?

  • Do I trust this person -or life- to work it out?

From there, a simple clearing statement can help return your energy to yourself. Examples:

  • “I am responsible for me. You are responsible for you.”

  • “I take back all my energy for myself.”

  • “I trust the universe to take care of this.”

In HigherCx sessions, we personalize these statements to your specific situation and confirm the shift through muscle testing. But you can use them anytime.

Having the awareness, making a choice to stop the enmeshment, and the act of speaking it aloud gives your energy a clear directive. This is powerful enough to stop the energetic drain and return you to a state of balance.

The Freedom of Sovereignty

The goal isn’t disconnection, it’s sovereignty: caring without carrying, loving without rescuing, and connecting without losing yourself.

Energetic boundaries mean your energy is available for your healing, your creativity, and your life. You can move through the world with more clarity, trust, and vitality, knowing your boundaries support your relationships rather than limit them.

If this topic resonated with you, we invite you to join us for an upcoming Gathering at Zenbrio House, a space to explore these conversations in community and practice the tools that support energetic clarity and alignment. If you’d like more personal guidance, a private session with one of our facilitators can help you identify and clear what’s keeping you out of balance so you can return fully to yourself.
